5 things to consider
5 things to consider as you prepare for retirement..... 1. Retirement is, and always has been, an income problem first. The correct question to ask is not “Do I have enough principal to retire?”….but rather…. “Do I have enough income to retire?” Job 1 is to help you generate enough retirement income in order to live with dignity and independence, as you personally define those values. 2. Every year, everything you buy will become more expensive. An item which costs you $1.00 today will eventually cost you $2.50 during the course of your retirement. The ever increasing price of life is the real danger that can affect your retirement. You must defend your lifestyle with the correct investment* selections. 3. Humans are designed as emotional creatures. Volatile markets in either direction will always heighten your natural emotions. However, making investment* decisions from a heightened state of emotion can have disastrous consequences. Therefore, I invite you to consider a more disciplined, and unemotional approach to investing* that is both timeless and elegant in its ability to calm your emotions without abandoning your carefully crafted plan*. 4. The financial media is not your friend. You have a life to lead and you don’t need to spend it watching a cable news program predicting the end of America…..again. Having a trusted advisor to guide you through challenging times will prove to be one of the most important relationships in your life; and one that will transcend the noise of the media to help you build the correct plan* for your family. 5. Never hire a financial advisor based on performance numbers alone. While important, performance numbers cannot be guaranteed. In addition, your particular portfolio* will never be the highest performing in its class every single year. So, trust your instincts. Hire someone you genuinely like to work with, and someone who returns your phone calls the same day. Make sure your advisor has at least a Series 7 and Series 66 license, and that you understand how their fee structure works. I work with a select number of families in an effort to increase the predictability of their financial lives. In addition, I contact every client, every quarter, in order to communicate the progress we are making, and to ensure that your plan is on track. You will never be ignored. If it makes sense to have an advisor* work with you in the pursuit of your investment* goals, then schedule a time to visit and we’ll simply enjoy a cup of coffee and get to know each other. I invite you to learn more by contacting me at 913-851-1903.
